🌿 Tangkoko Rainforest & Flora Tour

The Tangkoko Rainforest & Flora Tour is a specialized eco-education and light research program designed for nature lovers, botanists, biology students, and photographers who are passionate about the tropical flora of North Sulawesi.

Located within the Tangkoko Nature Reserve, this tour introduces participants to the extraordinary diversity of tropical vegetation — from towering rainforest trees to delicate orchids, ferns, vines, and unique forest floor plants.
Participants will also discover fascinating ecological relationships between plants and wildlife, including fruit-eating birds, pollinating insects, and arboreal mammals such as the Bear Cuscus.

Guided by experienced local naturalists and park rangers, the program combines forest trekking, flora identification, ecological interpretation, and opportunities for botanical photography.
It offers the perfect blend of science, adventure, and education, revealing how the rainforest sustains life across the Wallacea region.

⚠️ Important Note – Focus Area Options

To ensure a meaningful and efficient field experience, participants or groups can select one primary focus area during the tour.

Possible themes include:

• Lowland rainforest vegetation study – tree structure, ferns, vines, and understory flora

• Botanical photography & tropical plant documentation

• Plant–wildlife interactions – observing fruiting trees, pollinators, and feeding mammals

• Ecological interpretation & environmental education for students and nature enthusiasts

By focusing on one theme, participants gain deeper ecological understanding, improved data quality, and more meaningful documentation results for educational or scientific purposes.

🌳 Permits & Field Support

All fieldwork and flora observation activities inside Tangkoko Nature Reserve are conducted under official entry permits and in coordination with the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

For educational or photography activities, standard forest entrance and ranger fees are already included in the tour.
However, for academic or scientific research, participants may need to present a research letter or institutional permit.

Our team will assist with:

• Coordination with BKSDA and local authorities

• Research or study permit processing (if required)

• Field logistics, transportation, and accommodation

• Support from local rangers and naturalist guides

This is a special-interest program involving extended field activities and logistical support.
As such, the tour cost differs from regular wildlife tours, reflecting the additional coordination and field assistance provided.

🗓Itinerary (5 Days)

(Duration adjustable between 5–8 days depending on research or documentation focus)

Day 1 – Arrival in Manado ➝ Tangkoko

• Pick-up from Sam Ratulangi International Airport or hotel in Manado/Bitung.

• Scenic drive to Tangkoko Nature Reserve (approx. 2–3 hours).

• Check-in at eco-lodge / forest homestay near the reserve.

• Short briefing about program objectives, forest safety, and field focus.

• Dinner & overnight stay in Tangkoko.

Day 2 – Tropical Flora & Vegetation Exploration

• Morning forest trek to study lowland rainforest vegetation structure.

• Identify tree species, vines, epiphytes (orchids, mosses, ferns), and forest-floor plants.

• Learn about the ecological roles of plants in supporting wildlife and soil health.

• Lunch in the field followed by observation of fruiting trees and pollinators.

• Afternoon data review and botanical photography session.

Day 3 – Ecology & Plant–Wildlife Interaction

• Observe interactions between plants and animals (Yaki, Bear Cuscus, Hornbills).

• Learn about fruiting cycles, seed dispersal, and canopy ecology.

• Photograph and document species relationships.

• Evening data discussion and rest at the lodge.

Day 4 – Secondary Forest & Conservation Study

• Visit secondary forest areas to compare vegetation regeneration stages.

• Discussion about habitat recovery, conservation challenges, and community-based forest protection.

• Optional session with park ranger on conservation management and reforestation efforts.

• Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 – Final Observation & Departure

• Early morning forest walk and final observation or photo session.

• Data backup and wrap-up discussion with the guide.

• Private transfer back to Manado / Sam Ratulangi Airport.
